our insurance policy

and why it is so complicated…

Why we can’t accept insurance

Starting January 1, 2025, Symbio will no longer be able to accept insurance plans for coverage. No, we aren’t thrilled about it either.

Our model asks patients to pay for services at the time of the visit, after which we will expeditiously send you a super-bill receipt for you to submit to your insurance company to request application to your deductible, or better yet, for reimbursement.

We have no interest in making our services financially prohibitive. That, it would seem, is the speciality of modern insurance companies. Read below if you’d like to learn more about this change and why it is being made.

For you, the community who has trusted us with your care for years, we offer a sliding scale payment option as needed. Performing artists and active military members most certainly qualify for discounted rates that we cheerfully provide.

Alienating you because of questionable ethical practices of insurance companies is indeed NOT why we do this work. Should you need to discuss that with us at Symbio, you can do so directly with our Clinic Director Team and/or CEO.

A rambling note from our CEO:

Ultimately, as the CEO of this company, I refuse to pay our providers a wage undeserving of the world class care they provide. I also refuse to transition to a model of high volume senseless care with a miserable and burnt out team. They deserve more than that. You deserve more than that. I’d rather close the doors.

Insurance is complicated and tricky, creating policies to maximize their profits.

To participate with an insurance company’s network (In-Network), a fee is dictated to the practice for reimbursement by that insurance company. In most cases, the amount of reimbursement to the practice is set so low that a clinic is forced to see more and more patients to keep their doors open. This reality forces the hand of the participating clinic to become a high-volume practice, seeing as many as 4-6 patients per hour for financial feasibility. In such cases, patients will see their PT for only 10-15 minutes of individualized time. If you have been to a “mill” PT practice, you are already familiar.

In the past 15 years, we have seen troubling changes even in plans that allow for out-of-network coverage. They are making it harder and harder for practices to get reimbursed for high level care, playing games and using lawyers to fight for money that isn’t rightfully theirs. Additionally, so many plans now have deductibles set so high that they would never be paid off in a calendar year unless a tragedy befalls their member. We are not in the business of tragedy and games - we are in the business of helping people.

Symbio Physio refuses to allow insurance companies to force us into sub-optimal care and a cookie-cutter approach. Because of our philosophy, we feel it is paramount to provide focused sessions of one-on-one time with each patient. To stray from that principle would be a betrayal of what we believe to be the best way to help our patients achieve their goals.

Our job is to get people better. We don’t take that lightly. Treating patients one-on-one for 45 minutes is the best and most efficient way to make that happen. We promise to always give you our very best, the focused attention you deserve, the body you want to move and live in. Unfortunately, we are unable to do so under the tactics of insurance companies.

We thank you for your understanding and continued trust in us for your care.
